PRACTICAL TOOL

Data completeness calculator

Turn a count of missing values into a transparent completeness measure. This tool takes aggregate numbers only; it does not upload customer records.

Calculations run in your browser. Inputs are not uploaded or saved by this tool.

A transparent definition

Expected values = records reviewed × required fields per record. Present values = expected values − missing required values. Completeness = present values ÷ expected values × 100. Counts must be whole numbers; records and fields must be positive. Missing values cannot exceed the expected value count.

Work through the example

Four hundred records with five required fields create 2,000 expected values. If 180 are missing, 1,820 are present. Completeness is 1,820 ÷ 2,000 × 100 = 91%. A record missing two required fields contributes two missing values, not one. Record-level completeness is a different measure and is not computed here.

When this simple model fits

The calculation assumes the same number of fields is required for every included record. If requirements vary by record type, calculate each group separately or use a field-level denominator produced by a more detailed audit. Do not classify a legitimate not-applicable field as missing. Write down how blanks, whitespace, and placeholder strings were counted.

What remains unmeasured

A filled value may be inaccurate, outdated, duplicated, or inappropriate for the proposed use. This tool does not validate email deliverability, verify identity, certify marketing permission, or diagnose a live CRM. It takes aggregate counts only and sends no records to a server. Record the measurement date and definition before comparing one audit with another.
